All Our Chemical Relations: Learning from the Lands, Upholding Indigenous Knowledges is a six-year project that creates opportunities for Indigenous communities, researchers, and organizations to collaborate on Indigenous-led and community-driven approaches to governing the presence of chemicals in our lands, waters, and bodies.
All Our Chemical Relations begins with a fundamental understanding of how Indigenous knowledge systems can transform our understanding of chemical risk management. With global chemical production rising rapidly, Indigenous communities face disproportionate impacts from toxic exposure. Our Indigenous-led, six-year initiative brings together leaders, Elders, researchers, and government partners across Canada and Aotearoa to reimagine how chemical risks are understood and managed.

Indigenous knowledges are rooted in relationships with Skyworlds, lands, waters, plants, and animals and guides our work to create safer, more sustainable futures for generations to come. Through shared learning across Indigenous communities, we are reshaping chemical risk management in Canada, Aotearoa, and international policy spaces while training the next generation of Indigenous chemical risk professionals.

A global collaboration with researchers from the University of Toronto, the University of Guelph, the University of British Columbia, Te Ao Mārama Inc., Manaaki Whenua - Bioeconomy Science Institute, the University of Auckland, and Indigenous Elders and knowledge holders, alongside agencies including Health Canada, University of Calgary, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and New Zealand’s EPA.
