Dr. Elyse Caron-Beaudoin is an environmental health researcher at the University of Toronto Scarborough whose work advances community-based, interdisciplinary approaches to understanding how environmental contaminants affect human health. Her research integrates toxicology, molecular biology, exposure science, and epidemiology to examine pathways linking industrial and other anthropogenic pressures to reproductive and pregnancy outcomes, asthma, endocrine disruption, and stress-related mechanisms.
A central pillar of her program is long-term, community-engaged research conducted in close partnership with Indigenous communities in Northeastern British Columbia. Through co-developed biomonitoring, epidemiological, and traditional food safety studies, she works with community leaders and members to address locally identified priorities related to contaminant exposure and health. Her collaborative approach emphasizes respect, reciprocity, and the mobilization of knowledge to support environmental justice and evidence-informed policy. Dr. Caron-Beaudoin’s work bridges mechanistic science and lived experience, strengthening capacity for community-driven environmental health research in Canada and beyond.
